Audit
A map tells you where you are. An audit tells you what's missing and what's broken. The Audit step takes your completed AI landscape from Step 1 and scores it against a structured gap framework — comparing your current state to where the highest-performing service businesses in your category are operating.
You will find gaps you expected and several you didn't. The output is a ranked gap list: not a general sense of being behind, but a specific inventory of what is absent, what is underused, and what is being done manually that a working AI system could eliminate. This is the most uncomfortable step and the most important one.
What This Step Covers
Absent: a capability that AI-mature businesses in your category have that you don't. Underused: a tool you have but use inconsistently or in a limited way. Manual: a task you do by hand, on a schedule, that repeats the same way every time. All three types belong on the gap list. Prioritize is where they get ranked. Here, the goal is completeness.
What Honest Looks Like
The Audit step requires you to compare yourself against a benchmark, not against where you were six months ago. Progress is not the measure — position is. A business that has grown from zero AI use to three AI tools may still have a 2/5 maturity score if the gap between them and the benchmark is large. The number isn't a judgment. It's a starting coordinate.
The businesses that get the most from this step are the ones who approach it like a diagnostic, not a report card. The gaps on your list are not failures. They are a backlog of leverage. Every item represents time you're spending manually, or output you're not producing, or client experience you're not delivering. The audit turns vague dissatisfaction with your current AI situation into a specific, actionable list.
The AI Readiness Assessment gives you a scored baseline across all three stages in 3 minutes.
