MSP Lead Magnet Guide
An MSP owner once built a 12-page ebook on cybersecurity best practices. Spent three weeks on it. Got three downloads in six months. Replaced it with a one-page audit checklist. Got 47 leads in 30 days.
The difference had nothing to do with effort. It had everything to do with format and specificity. The lead magnet that converts is the one that solves a specific problem for a specific person in five minutes. Not the one that demonstrates how much you know.
Format: What Works and What Doesn't
The Right Topic
Start with this exercise. Write down the three questions your best clients asked you before they signed. Not IT questions — business questions. "Will we pass our SOC 2 audit?" "Are we actually HIPAA compliant or are we just hoping?" "What happens to our data if you get breached?"
Those questions are your lead magnet topics. The best MSP lead magnets address a compliance risk, a decision the prospect has to make, or a diagnostic they can run on their own business right now.
The Title Formula
"Is Your IT Infrastructure Investor-Ready? The 10-Point Audit for PE and Hedge Fund Firms"
"The HIPAA Readiness Checklist for Regional Medical Practices"
"7 Signs Your MSP Contract Is Costing You More Than You Think" (for SMB prospects)
The ICP should read the title and think: this was made for me. If the title could apply to any business, it will not convert.
Building and Deploying It — Five Steps
Write the content first, design second
10–15 specific checklist items or audit questions. Each one should make the reader either nod (I knew this) or wince (I haven't done this). Both reactions are good. Wince reactions produce inbound calls.
Design it simply — one branded page
Your logo, your brand colours, your contact details at the bottom. The design should signal professional without taking three weeks in Canva. Simple beats polished when the content is strong.
Add a capture form to your website
Name, work email, company name. That's all. Every additional field reduces conversion. The form connects to your email platform and automatically triggers Email 1 of your nurture sequence when someone opts in.
Use it as the SDR hook
"The lead magnet replaces the cold pitch. "We just published a compliance checklist for firms like yours — want me to send it over?" is a reason to call. "We offer managed IT services" is not. This reframe changes your SDR conversion rate immediately.
Feature it in LinkedIn content
Post about the problem the checklist solves. Reference it in the comments, not the post body. LinkedIn suppresses posts with external links — the checklist link goes in the first comment after publishing.
Step 3 of the 3Cs Framework includes lead magnet topic, title, format, and the capture form setup — built into your custom 90-day plan.
